Testimonials from French Teachers
Steven Langlois,

Thank you for getting back to me about my mailing question. I have to tell you that the Étienne CDs have saved my life! I teach grade 4 French immersion and grade 4 core French. This week alone, my students have asked 10 times to hear "Étienne". I have the CDs and teacher books for "Chez moi" and "La danse..." and I thought that I could really use another CD. The students love the music! Thank you so much for creating such a fun resource! I bought my Étienne CDs when I was a student-teacher and money was a little tight. I can tell you that the money spent on the CDs was well worth it!

THANK YOU!
Christine

Dear Steven,

I got your CD today right before I went to school. I really wasn’t prepared to use it, but I’m teaching the verb “aller” to my students so I did. They liked it! By the end of the class they were all singing “Je vais, tu vas, il va…” I teach grades seven to nine. My classes are difficult to please. They live in West Philadelphia. It’s a very poor, inner city area, in short, “the hood.” They know their rap. If it isn’t Tupac Shakur, the Notorious B.I.G. or Snoop Doggy Dog, they aren’t interested. They did like your song, however, and they do know ALLER!

Sincerely,
Amy Winther, Philadelphia, PA USA

Dear Mr. Langlois,

I purchased your Danse des Araignées CD and workbook this past weekend at SCOLT in Myrtle Beach. I just wanted to let you know that not only did my students bang their heads and get up spontaneously to dance when they heard it, but some even asked if they could "burn" themselves a copy or if they could have the name and title of the album so they could download it off of Napster. =) C'est formidable, n'est-ce pas?

Thank you very much,
Shawna Buckler, Estes Hills School, Chapel Hill, NC USA

I have used your cd's in my classroom for the past three years of teaching grade 7 and 8 French. When the students come into class they ask, "can we sing Etienne today?" They love singing along and we did do your rock video unit last year, which the kids enjoyed immensely. The only song I really wish you had is one that helps with numbers. I would also love to see some workshops/concerts in this end of the country! Keep on doing what you are doing!

Thank you,

Good Evening,

Brilliant work, bravo! I am a teacher of French and while surfing the net I came across your site. I will definitely introduce this fresh method of teaching in my classroom and I will also tell my colleagues about this marvellous site.

Just a note of thanks for your songs. Today we had our monthly social skills assembly and the theme for March is anti-racism. Prior to knowing the subject, I had booked my Grade 6 French class to sing "La danse des araignees". Last week the organizer of the assembly approached me about doing a poem or something in French about anti-racism as well as "La danse".

I have been piloting the On y va! programme and had just started the unit, "Un monde pour tout le monde". So I looked through it (perhaps I should have done that before!) and found your song. It sounded so creepy that I knew the kids would love it. The Grade 7's volunteered to sing the refrain with the Grade 6's and two Grade 8 boys volunteered to read the rap-spoken part. One of the boys is on an IPRC with reading disabilities but the two practiced over the phone at home. So in one week we put the song together even without the other teachers' cooperation about practice times.

So this afternoon, the Grade 6's performed "La danse" complete with two spider outfits that they had made and not only did the actions of the song, but added their own choreographing as well. Then the Grade 7's joined them on stage. The Grade 6's waved their hands in the air while singing the chorus of "Un monde", except for the last line when they pointed to one another (Toi et moi) and then the audience (et des gens comme nous). It was a great hit with everyone, even though they were all a little scared and didn't sing out very loud. This is my first year with an actual contract even though I had been supply teaching. My age has been a hindrance to getting hired until the Hamilton Board got desperate, so appearing to be a good teacher is a good thing! Thank you for sharing your gifts with the rest of us French teachers. I'm sure there are many like myself who really appreciate your work.

Étienne,

I teach French Immersion and my students love your stuff. Even during Art and Music we often have your CD’s on just because they love to sing along. I really can’t believe that 12 and 13 year old students like to sing about grammar, but hey, whatever works, right? Anyway, keep up the good work…. And many of the links on your website have been very useful – thank you.
