Biography
of Steven Langlois (Étienne)
Steven Langlois, a respected
teacher, Project Coordinator of FSL Renewal (GECDSB
and WECDSB), Think Literacy Team-Teacher and
Department Head at Kennedy Collegiate Institute of
the Greater Essex County District School Board, is
better known worldwide for his work outside the
classroom. As the popular educational performer “Étienne”,
he composes and performs songs and curriculum
designed to help children learn English, French and
Spanish using popular music styles.
Since the beginning of his teaching career in 1993, tens of thousands
of children, parents and educators, in homes and
classrooms around the world, have been rockin' and
hip hoppin' to the distinctive English, French and
Spanish music of Étienne. A two-time “Canada’s
Favourite Children’s Artist of the Year” winner, his
music breaks down barriers and makes learning fun
for all ages. Parents and teachers praise the music
as inspiring. Each song of this Warner Music artist
effectively teaches a range of literacy topics from
basic alphabet, numbers and vocabulary to all forms
of grammar. The popularity of the music and demand
for concert appearances compel Langlois to split his
teaching duties with his musical and professional
obligations. His appearances are praised as
"interactive and motivating," "a class act," and the
"ultimate educational experience." Langlois juggles
a teaching career with sold-out concert tours
throughout the world, annually presenting keynote
addresses and workshops at major Foreign language
conferences, as well as writing and producing new
material.
